Instamatic is an artwork composed of a common brick in grey or black concrete with Minimalux appendages in solid polished metals or plated finishes. As part of the Common Parts series it pays homage to the Instamatic series of easy loading cameras made by Kodak from 1963 onwards which introduced a generation to the concept of 'point and shoot’ and low-cost photography. Each finish is offered in a stamped and numbered edition of #10, accompanied by a signed certificate of authenticity and a unique wooden crate. All editions in the Common Parts series are produced by Minimalux on a made to order basis with a delivery time of 3-4 weeks. Shipping is calculated at checkout.

About Common Parts

To mark the launch of the new Editions section on minimalux.com, co-founder and creative director, Mark Holmes has produced a series of 6 artworks. Common Parts is the result of a brief to only use existing materials and pre-made forms found within his immediate environment, together with unrestricted access to the contents of the Minimalux component shelves. Familiar industrially made product parts are subsequently removed from their original functional context and combined with concrete bricks to create objects that playfully reference elements of brutalism and minimalist art. The main thread that unites the series is its referral to a milestone period in 20th Century design, fuelled by the evolution of audio-visual consumer electronics by the likes of Braun and Kodak. Each of the artworks characterfully mimic in both scale and form the classic products developed during this time and are named accordingly with the titles ‘Transistor', ‘Instamatic’, ‘Phonograph’, 'Super-8’, ‘Projector’ and ‘Mobile’.
